How I can contribute to the school
HCI organizes many camps for its students but these team-building and survivor training offer limited opportunities for one to lead while being engaged. In the spirit of “Nurturing Leaders”, one of Hwa Chong’s missions, the student leaders of HCI could do more in this area. Hence, one of the areas I could contribute should I become a councillor would be the design, planning and conduct of a leadership training camp for Secondary One students. The main reason for choosing Secondary One students is to allow a more progressive nurturing of leadership awareness and skills through their 6-years stint in Hwa Chong. I may further suggest that we could introduce more leadership training into the Secondary One Cohesion Camp during Term 1, as the latter’s curriculum was very similar to the activities laid out for us during the MOE Adventure Camp in Primary Five.
My strengths and weaknesses
I may be affected emotionally by defeat and failure, but I do not succumb to such setbacks and possess the ability to quickly overcome the loss and move on. This is one of my greatest strengths. A more recent example I could relate was my poor showing during Term 1 at HCI. I only managed an MSG of 3.5 and finished last for the Infocomm Studies (IS) paper. Frankly, I was kind of shaken and felt hopeless after a bad lecture by my father. However, I was able to quickly overcome the sense of desperation, re-channel my energy, set my goals, steer the course and make steady progress. I manage to make quantum leap in Term 2, scoring the highest in class for my IS paper and averaging 1.83 for my MSG. Having a high adversity quotient is as important when it comes to council work. This is because you are expected to be creative and organized, and possess good leadership qualities and inter-personal skills. At times, what you think is the “perfect plan” may not be accepted by your project mates. I am able to relate well with my peers and with the shared goal of serving and providing what’s best for the student population, I am confident we will deliver the desired outcome.
I guess my weakness could be being a perfectionist at times, particularly when I get too engrossed with achieving excellence in my undertaking. I have to work on striking the balance between achieving excellence and knowing what and when will be the point beyond which one would receive only marginal gain. I could realise this through being more open-minded and receptive to feedback from peers and seniors around me.

Why should you vote for me?
Firstly, I am a people - oriented leader which means that when doing a task I put the people's consideration first followed by the rate of productivity. This is extremely crucial in council as you must garner the support of the masses to initiate or work on anything.
Secondly I am definitely not the tallest or strongest or most handsome or smartest councillor - in - training but at least I have a determination to match that. This can be seen when I was flunking for my term 1 MSG of 3.5 but worked my way up to 1.83 in term 2. If you do not believe me you can ask my friends, and no it is not because of excessive mugging. :D
Lastly, I have experience in leading a group. For instance i am the Chairman of 1P2 and yes if you know who our form teacher is you know I have a hard time. ;) Also I was a CIT for the whole year and organised the quarterly review for councillors as a programmes member. I was also a Squad IC of my NPCC squad for the first half of the year.
So isn;t the choice now soooo obvious. When you get that paper all oyu have to do is find my name "Benedict Lim" and spam tick that check box!!!!!!!!!!!!
